WE say

A bustling traditional market town in the giant Portes du Soleil region with a life that clearly exists outside the tourism. A family resort with a relaxed atmosphere.

As one of the resorts in the Portes du Soleil area, Morzine has access to over 650km of varied terrain.  It is the biggest international ski area in the world and features a massive choice of piste – from picturesque tree-lined slopes to enormous, open, high altitude snow bowls.  A single pass can cover this whole area, incorporating 14 different resorts, including Les Gets, Avoriaz and Chatel, giving you access to seemingly endless slopes.

Skiing in Morzine itself is mostly centred on the excellent pistes around le Pleney where there is a range of laid-back blues and reds that send you back into town or to nearby Les Fys.  On the other side of Le Pleney is the Chavannes area of Les Gets which is covered by the local lift pass as well as the area one.  The main peak here is Le Ranfully which boasts a huge variety of reds and you can ski all the way back to Morzine.  Experts can head to La Rosta on the other side of the valley to experience some intimidating black runs, including the Yeti.

Morzine is a great family resort, which is reflected in the number of off-slope activities.  Snow-shoeing and the adventure playground are great for the kids, whilst parapenting, bungee-jumping and ice-diving are perhaps best left to the grown ups.  Once you’ve built up an appetite head for one of the many good quality eateries in the centre of Morzine, and, if you still have the energy, carry onto one of the many late-night bars for some obligatory après-ski fun.
