WE say

A pretty resort on the shores of a scenic lake. Pleanty of skiing backed up by the snow sure glacier. Good nightlife and alpine atmosphere.

This smart little lakeside town is packed with charm, offering a good range of shops, bars and cafés and a traffic free centre. During the height of the winter the lake freezes over enabling you to walk from one side to the other, while activities such as curling and skating are practised upon it.  Zell am See is part of the Europa Sport Region which includes the neighbouring glacier resort of Kaprun.

Easily accessible by local ski bus, the area provides a great range of pistes to suit all levels.  The joint ski pass enables you to ski 130km of runs, served by 57 lifts.  Zell Am See\'s home slopes also cover all colours, from steep blacks to gentle blues.  For boarders there\'s a half-pipe on Schmittenhohe and another, plus fun park, on the Glacier above Kaprun.

The resort offers excellent nightlife with numerous traditional cafés, bars and very lively discos and nightclubs. Other activities include a swimming pool, ice skating and hockey, tobogganing, curling, indoor tennis and squash, bowling and sleigh rides.
