Simple family resort with pleanty of advanced skiing, reasonably priced accomodation and a short airport transfer. Not a resort for night owls but fatastic reliable skiing for all.
Perched high in the Colorado Rockies and straddling the Continental Divide, Winter Park is blessed with one of the highest snowfalls of feather light powder in Colorado. For many years this coverage has provided Americans with an amazing ski area of three big mountains plus an inviting bowl. The increasing onset of tourism means Winter Park has now joined the lengthening list of Colorado ski areas sought out by British skiers and snowboarders of all abilities. Developed many years ago by an enlightened Denver City Council for its citizens, Winter Park is the closest major ski area to the city, which is a mere 70 miles away.
Winter Park offers extensive terrain to all. The area is naturally divided in two: Winter Park, as accessed by the Zephyr Express quad has beginner, intermediate and expert terrain, whilst the Mary-Jane area features tricky tree-skiing and some expert double diamond chutes. Main access is via the six-seater Summit Express. There are also three terrain parks in Winter parks and a 450ft super-pipe. Off piste action can be found in the neighbouring, now ungraded Berhound Pass, but a chaperone is recommended.
The apres ski offer bags of choice at bargain prices, although most off-slope action is aimed at families rather than party people. Activities include cinema, ski doo, iceskating and snow shoeing. There is a heated outdoor pool and a gym.
