WE say

“The highest ski village in western Europe with guaranteed snow cover from before Christmas until after Easter. The highest resort offering the most convenient ski access in the giant Trois Vallées area.”

There is something to suit all needs and budgets in this resort: accommodation options range from apartments and hotels to catered ski chalets. Val Thorens is one of the resorts in Trois Vallées, and it towers over the others at 2,300m. The area has over 600km of pistes (the biggest ski area in the whole world), and 99% of those in Val Thorens offer skiing above 2,000m. This makes it the highest resort in Europe with year-round skiing straight from the doorstep of your catered chalet. Val Thorens welcomes all skiers, from beginners to serious amateurs.

If you’re just starting out or if you’re bringing along the kids, you’ll find the more gentle skiing opportunities adjacent to your catered chalet. Val Thorens’ intermediate skiers will find their blues and reds on the slopes that descend from the Peclet and Grand Fond funitels.

The Cime de Caron cable car will take the more advanced skiers to the top of the infamous Combe de Caron black run. From the lofty realms a kilometre into the sky, you’ll enjoy magnificent views of more than a thousand peaks. If a black run isn’t your thing then the off-piste paths through the Vallon du Lou will take you on an adventure. For snowboarders there are hours of fun to be had in the snow parks before retiring to a snug catered chalet. Val Thorens’ nearest park boasts a 110m half pipe, rails and a variety of challenging obstacles. For thrill seekers, try out the only toboggan course in the whole of France. Be prepared for 45 minutes of exhilaration as you race towards the climax of a 700m vertical drop.

The resort has several activities for those times when you need a break from skiing. The sports centre has a pool, Jacuzzi, table and court tennis. Plenty to keep you occupied!

Nightlife is as busy as the daytime. There are several bars located within easy distance from your catered chalet. Val Thorens is blessed with a good selection of restaurants, including one owned by a chef with a Michelin star. There’s snowmobiling and tobogganing after dark if you have any energy left over from the daytime action on the slopes.
